the city. very disappointed. one of the hot spots in the past has been the mission district. especially after the giants won the world series. this business across the street sketchers was hit hard. windows were covered in graffiti. same story with the business across the street. this time much calmer. san francisco police are telling us that 25 people were arrested. mostly for public intoxication. one person was arrested after they tried to light something on fire over near 16th and mission. near 24th street a few people threw bottles at police officers. that was contained quickly and fortunately there no one was hurt. part of mission and also 24th streets were closed down to eliminate cruising after and during the game. some fans thought it was heavy handed but most spilling out of bars after that loss to the ravens, they understood. >> it's all right. as long as there's no trouble and they're here to keep everything safe, it's okay. >> reporter: now early this morning street sweepers and power washers cleaned up the streets and sidewalks in the mission district. 25 people arrested nu

is pouring in from around the world and we begin our coverage with alan pizzey in vatican city. >> reporter: good morning. the announcement took a lot of people by surprise yet it is said the pope had discussed this two weeks ago with two or three people who are very close to him. the pope said he made this decision after long and careful consideration and prayer and thought. in his statement announcing it he said, i have come to the certainty that my strptength, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to the adequate exercise of the petrine ministry meaning he's too tired to go on. the papal spokesman said there was no specific illness that they know of he's not in danger of dying tomorrow or anything but he's just decided it was time to go. he will resign at 8:00 p.m. rome time on february the 28th. afterwards, there will be a conclave of cardinals. they will try to have a new pope elected by march the 24th, which is the beginning of holy week. it's not necessary for them to do it, but the feeling here is that they will probably be able to do that. benedict xvi in

california. fairfield where the 13-year-old was murdered. the same city she lived with her foster family and where she used to live with her natural mom was in vallejo. josh allen is her birth father. >> what do you want to say to this guy that did that? >> you know, he is going to get what he deserves. >> reporter: 500 people lit candles where her naked body was discovered just one week ago. just a few hours after cops announced an arrest. >> no answer. the big question why. why didn't you leave her alone. and i hope you get what is coming to you. >> jones was identified early on as a suspect in this case. since that time he's been under 24 hour surveillance. no danger to the public. >> reporter: the suspected murderer is a barber by trade. these photos from the social networking site show him hard at work at the crown's barbershop in fairfield. one of the several places surrounded by yellow tape today. the section where he was arrested was also a crime scene. this is where the surveillance camera captured her image moments before being kidnapped.

been cancelled and public transportation in many cities is at a standstill but soum are making the most of being stuck in the storm. a snowball fighting flash mob erupted in the streets of boston tonight but for most people the storm is no fun at all. chief meteorologist has been watching it tracking it on high deaf doppler. paul. >> it's not just snow. it's the wind, and the wind has knocked out power to so many folks. this is a pretty significant problem out there. we had a weather system come down from the great lakes in canada. we had a different weather system come up from the gulf of moeks ko. where those two merged you get what's called a nor'easter. this time of near a nor'easter can be a significant snow maker. that's exactly what we have going on right now. we are talking about significant snowfall for the next 12 to 24 hours. in hartford, connecticut tonight, cbs report ir is reporting live and marly i would have to assume it is not just the intense snowfall, it is that wind you're getting some gusts up to 60 miles an hour. >> that's right. gusty winds here in hartford, conne

to move into kansas city where it's going to snow hard it looks like for about the entire day. our forecast models are showing that snow pivoting from the southwest to the northeast as we go throughout the morning and the afternoon hours, so wichita will see improvements late today, but northeast kansas and most of missouri we're going to be looking at heavy snowfall for the next at least 12 hours and how much more snow? look at this purple area anywhere in here we could be talking about maybe a foot maybe a little bit more than that. the snow rates are incredible this morning they're one to two inches per hour and it could snow like that for the next 6 to 12 hours in some locations. we don't want to forget about folks in the south from houston to new orleans the southern end of this storm, there's the potential for severe weather as we head later on into today. so it's bad news in the short term for travel but the good news is we have severe drought in the farmland areas of the midwest and this moisture is greatly needed and going to be greatly appreciated.
